Hello
My name is Gyan Mishra “author” of all the training documents. A bit about myself.
As a well renown industry leader with a 37 year career with my longest tenure at Verizon, a Tier-1 Global service provider, I would like to tell you about myself and how I decided to launch this training site. I started my career as hardware engineer as an ASIC designer working with Xilinx Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) and Multiplier Accumulator (MAC) used for Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) in Digital Signal Processing (DSP) math calculations as well as microcontroller and microprocessor design. I was working for CAE-Link building special purpose hardware for a DOD Navy contract for pilot simulation trainers. Singer company was major conglomerate that made the well-known Singer sewing machine. So how the story goes, Singer was sold off by a corporate raider which split the company into many pieces, of which one of the spin offs pieces was CAE-Link. I worked at CAE-Link at the dead end of Tech road in Silver Spring. Funny enough my father-in-law worked in the exact same building on the same floor 30 years prior during the Space race to land on the moon on the Apollo 1 mission to the moon. That was quite an amazing talk of how our two worlds collided when I married his daughter. While at CAE link the industry shifted from designing special purpose hardware to COTS Commercial off the shelf hardware which I then to keep my job had to learn while under fire to write C and C++ code and building the operating system that would run on COTS. Little did I know that all the work I was doing early in my career, that I would come full circle and be using the same hardware and software co-integration work later in my career. I kept up with my hardware & software knowledge as I was always keen on tinkering and learning with the ultimate quest for never ending stream of knowledge. When I was a hardware & software engineer at CAE-Link I was also the “IT guy” which gosh I never though that would end up becoming my lifelong career. I later transitioned to IT as a network engineer and worked for few consulting companies to find my bearings and what I wanted to do in life and landed a contracting job at Bell Atlantic.
A year or so later I landed a senior network design engineer role at the age of 28 with Bell Atlantic (Verizon). I gained tremendous experience working with Verizon in Network Planning & Engineering on both the pubic side and private IT network side and gained valuable experience in just about every type of network imaginable from MPLS Core networks to Massively Scalable Data Centers (MSDC) data center VXLAN networks to DWDM OTN, to AI DC backend to WLN Fiber to the Premises FTTX xPON to WLS 3G 4G 5G open vRAN evolution. I ended up climbing the corporate ladder for 30 years with my final role as Associate Fellow – Network Design where I was a C-Level executive trusted advisor. Over the last 15 years of my career I also served as a protocol designer and developer at the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) with 9 RFC’s and 2 patents with 100+ patents filed in USPTO patent pending state filed. Clarence Filsfils a well renown founder of the Segment Routing technology as well as SRv6 Micro-SID drastically changed my perspective on current networking technologies. I was very fortunate to have worked with Clarence Filsfils over the last 5 years of my career at Verizon on Segment Routing over IPv6 (SRv6) and later becoming SME expert on SRv6, co-authored Cisco’s Segment Routing Volume 3 “SRv6” chapter 18 which was about SRv6 in the Data Center “A state of the art Innovation”. I also worked on Clarence’s team of operators to present ground breaking innovations in SRv6 at MPLS World Congress (Paris) in 2023 and 2024.
After a long career at Verizon, I left to start “SRv6 TEK Innovations” which SRv6 Technology had truly become my brain child love at first sight with my innovation of using SRv6 in the Data Center space. It has been a very exciting road indeed, and now with my company I am coming come full circle back to hardware and software development working with one of the 5 pillars of SRv6 TEK Innovations which is the paradigm shift to disaggregated hardware and software and now writing C & C++ code and working with Switch Abstraction Interface (SAI) with Broadcom SDK for DNX and XGS chipsets for NOS vendors that want to develop SRv6 Micro-SID into their code. It has been an absolutely exciting journey with my company and now starting to expand into IT consulting & staffing across all vertical markets in the public and private sector.
All of the material on this site “tek-brains.net” has literally been a culmination of my entire life long journey and my quest for knowledge that I am now sharing with the world.
